In the current time and age, a faster computer is what everyone would love to have, even on a small budget, it is possible to make your computer faster. Below are the things to consider;
- Switch from Hard Disk Drives (HDD) to Solid State Drives (SSD). SSD drives are usually small in space / memory but use flash memory for storage which makes for faster access of Operating System and related data held on the drive as opposed to the slow and cheaper mechanical Hard disk drives.
- Upgrade your RAM. Your RAM is where all currently executing programs are held, this mean, the more ram, the faster your current programs will run and thus contributing to a faster machine.
- Computer Architecture. When buying a computer, other things to consider may be the number of processes or cores and the Generation of the computer. A later generation usually equals a better architecture and hence faster machine.
Other things to make your machine faster may include:
- Delete or Remove Large or Unnecessary Files: Any temporary files that were used in an installation process, caches and cookies from the internet can take up a lot of space on your hard disk and then lead to suffocation of the computer. Regularly removing these can significantly improve the performance of your machine.
- Check your hard disk space. If you see that your hard disk is almost full, you can remove some programs and files to improve speed since when your memory / RAM is overwhelmed, the computer uses your Hard Disk as virtual memory. Always ensure you have about 15% of your hard drive free.
- Reboot your computer: Rebooting / Restarting your computer can sometimes be the only thing you need to make our computer work faster or unfreeze. Whenever things seem a little slower than usual, a simple restart can be the magic you need.
When all the above does not seem to solve your issue. Visit a qualified technician to help you out or for professional advice.
